We’ve all been there: it’s the weekend, you want to sleep in, but the sunlight wakes you up bright and early. It’s never a good feeling when you are forced to wake up earlier than you want to, especially when it’s your day off.
If you’re like me, getting enough sleep is an absolute necessity. I struggle to function when I don’t get enough sleep, and I LOVE to sleep in on the weekend. However, being from Arizona, I’ve dealt with the sun waking me up super early for most of my entire life.
When I got my first apartment, I finally decided to do something about it and get blackout curtains, and let me tell you, they are a game changer! No more getting woken up by the sun at 6:30am in the summertime, so I can sleep in whenever I want to.
If you are considering getting some blackout curtains for your bedroom, you will quickly realize not all blackout curtains are as effective as others. That’s why I’ve put together this list of the best tested and proven blackout curtains.
This post is all about the best bedroom blackout curtains that will allow you to finally sleep in (because you deserve it)!
Best Bedroom Blackout Curtains:
1. 100% Blackout Curtains
If you are a light sleeper who wakes up with even the smallest sliver of sunshine coming into your room, you need 100% blackout curtains that will not let in even the tiniest amount of sunshine.
Finding heavy duty blackout curtains that won’t let in any light can be a challenge. A lot of blackout curtains will still let in some light, so be careful when you are looking at curtains and make sure you get thick, thermal insulated curtains that will give you the full benefit of blackout curtains.
These emerald faux suede blackout curtains are one of the only options on the market that actually keeps out 100% of light. Living in Phoenix, AZ which is one of the sunniest places in the US, these curtains were some of the only blackout curtains that I found that actually kept all the sunshine out of my apartment in the summer.
They have a blackout liner which does an amazing job at keeping light out. I found that they even helped keep my energy bills down in summer because they prevented the sunlight from heating up my apartment during the day.
Not only are these blackout curtains super effective, but they are also gorgeous. I love the emerald color and the velvety, faux suede material makes them look so luxurious.
You really can’t go wrong with these blackout curtains!
2. Short Curtains
Depending on the size of the windows in your bedroom, you may prefer to have shorter blackout curtains; however, it can be challenging to find blackout curtains that fit your window and actually block out that light.
Fortunately, these bestselling thermal insulated blackout curtains come in a variety of sizes, so you will be able to find the perfect fit for your windows! There’s a reason why these curtains are so popular on Amazon. They completely block out the light!
In addition to the 13 different sizes that these curtains come in, they are also sold in 21 different colors. That means you can easily find short blackout curtains that complement the rest of your room.
As a bonus, these curtains also help block out noise, so if you live on a busy street or your neighbors can be loud, these curtains can help cancel out the noise and let you sleep peacefully.
All around, these curtains are a great option for blocking out light, reducing noise, and complementing your bedroom decor.
3. Eclipse Blackout Curtains
If you are looking for name brand blackout curtains for your bedroom, consider getting blackout curtains from the brand Eclipse. They have made a name for themselves for selling high-quality, stylish blackout curtains.
One of my favorite curtain sets from Eclipse are these patterned indigo blackout curtains. The indigo color is so pretty and gives a clam, laid back look. The wavy pattern is subtle, but it adds just the right amount of dimension to the curtains.
As blackout curtains, this set is pretty effective; however, I will put a disclaimer that if you live in very sunny environments these may let some light through. They overall do a pretty good job, but I wouldn’t say that they are 100% blackout.
I wouldn’t recommend these curtains if you live in Arizona, California, or Florida, but if you live in most other states, these will do the job.
These curtains are so charming, and will do a decent job keeping sunlight out of your bedroom.
4. Curtains for Nursery
When you have a newborn baby at home, you know that if your baby wakes up, you wake up. That’s why it’s super important to have effective blackout curtains in your nursery, so your baby can sleep peacefully.
These navy moon and star themed blackout curtains are an adorable option for your nursery! I know how much effort parents put into making their nursery look cute, and you definitely don’t want your blackout curtains to ruin the aesthetic.
These curtains have the most adorable moon and star pattern on them that makes them perfect for a nursery. They come in 11 different colors, so you can find the perfect set to match the rest of your nursery.
In addition to being adorable, these curtains do a good job blocking out light. I wouldn’t say that these are 100% blackout, but they do block out at least 85% of light. They will keep your nursery dark during nap times which will work for most babies and young children.
These curtains will complete your nursery and help your children sleep better!
5. Grey Curtains
For those of you who have been reading my blog regularly, you probably already know what I’m going to say, but I’m going to say it again because it is so true: Grey is one of the most on-trend, modern colors you can choose for your bedroom.
Curtains are a great way to incorporate grey into your bedroom, and there are LOTS of grey blackout curtains on the market. One of my favorites are these velvet stormy grey curtains.
There’s something about velvet that just makes it look so luxurious and high-end. These curtains are SO soft and will add a nice elegant touch to your bedroom while looking super cozy.
These velvet curtains will block most light out of your bedroom, but they are not fully blackout. If you can sleep with a little light in your room, these will work great for you.
Style-wise these are probably my favorite curtains on this list because they are perfect for a modern, luxurious look, making them a great option!
6. Master Bedroom Curtains
You deserve to have blackout curtains for your bedroom that will do an exceptional job at blocking out light while giving your bedroom a stylish look.
I personally love modern, airy looks for your master bedroom, and that’s exactly what you get with these Moroccan pattern blackout curtains. It’s a misconception that blackout curtains have to be a dark color to be effective, and these curtains are the perfect example of that.
These curtains are super well-made, and they have a thick blackout liner that truly blocks out 95%-100% of light from your room. On the side that you see, you will get the stunning, modern Moroccan pattern.
The white and grey pattern make these the perfect curtains for a modern or boho style bedroom. They are so stylish! I have these in my guest bedroom, and everyone loves them!
For curtains that are both stylish and truly blackout, these are a great option!
7. White Curtains
Good-quality white blackout curtains are so hard to find! Since true blackout curtains need the blackout lining on the back of the curtains, the white fabric has to be completely opaque to make sure the black doesn’t come through.
White is the perfect color for a fresh, airy look. If white curtains would best suit your room’s style, I recommend getting these white thermal insulated blackout curtains. These curtains are one of the only ones that I’ve found that block out 100% of light and look pure white.
The white is opaque and thick, so you don’t see the black lining come through. These will work no matter where you live! I’ve tested these in AZ, and I have to say these are one of the best performing blackout curtains on the list.
These are definitely my go to curtains for blocking out 100% of light while having absolutely no color bleed through between the layers.
8. Pink Bedroom Blackout Curtains
Whether you are looking to add a feminine touch to your room or are looking for some pretty curtains for your child’s room, pink is a great color! If you get the right tone of pink, your curtains can add a soft look to your bedroom.
These crystal pink blackout curtains are a great option if you want a refined and elegant look to your bedroom. This pink tone adds just the right amount of warmth and color for your bedroom. I love that it is a soft pink that is still vibrant and eye-catching. Just imagine pairing these with gold decor!
These curtains do a good job blocking out the light, but I wouldn’t say they are 100% effective. A small amount of light will still come into your bedroom, so I wouldn’t recommend these for super light sleepers, but for the average person, they will get the job done.
Add the right touch of color to your bedroom with these pink curtains!
9. Blue Bedroom Blackout Curtains
If you are struggling to decide on a curtain color for your bedroom, I recommend trying blue decor. For my boyfriend and I, blue is one of the only colors we can agree on. We both find it to be calming, and it’s neutral enough to look great with all our other decor. It’s a universal pleaser, so you really can’t go wrong with blue.
These sky blue blackout curtains are SO pretty! I personally prefer light blue to dark blue because it adds a more airy look to the room. I think these curtains are the perfect tone for most bedrooms. It looks great paired with wood and metal finishes and will make any room look fresh and well put together.
I have found that these curtains are very effective at blocking out light. It easily blocks out about 90% of all light from your bedroom and does a good job preventing your bedroom from heating up.
Turn your bedroom into a relaxing sanctuary with these light blue curtains!
10. Farmhouse Bedroom Blackout Curtains
Farmhouse style bedrooms are known for their classic, traditional style. When most people think of farmhouse style, they think of white lace curtains; however, lace curtains will not help much with blocking out light. As a result, it can be challenging to find blackout curtains that match the rest of the decor in your bedroom.
If you are going for a farmhouse style in your bedroom, I recommend getting neutral colored curtains. While you can’t go for lace, you can still find blackout curtains that will complement the rest of your decor. These beige blackout curtains can go with any decor and will look great with the wooden decor that rustic style is known for.
The neutral color will allow your curtains to be the perfect backdrop for your decor. The beige is the perfect accent tone for wooden decor. It will let the rest of your decor be the star of the show, but will further add to the theme by creating a simple, classic look.
These curtains do block out just about 100% of all light from your bedroom which makes them perfect for sunny mornings. They also come in nine different sizes, so you will definitely be able to find the perfect fit for your windows!
To achieve a farmhouse style with blackout curtains, I recommend going for neutral toned curtains that will accent the rest of your decor!
11. Bedroom Thermal Blackout Curtains
Aside from helping you sleep better, one of the best benefits of blackout curtains is that they can help keep your bedroom cool through the hot summer months and even keep your energy bill down.
If you live in a hot climate, you know how expensive it can be to blast the air conditioner all summer. When I lived in Phoenix, my blackout curtains helped keep my apartment cool and my energy bill down.
All of the 100% blackout curtains on this list are a great option for helping you regulate the temperature in your bedroom. However, if you are looking for another option, consider these grey linen blackout curtains. The grey linen will give the perfect modern look to your bedroom.
They are designed to block out 100% of sunshine from your bedroom which will keep the heat out of your room. The thermal insulation will also work in the winter to prevent cool air from creeping into your room, so they will help you have a low energy bill year around.
For stylish curtains that will help you keep your energy bill low, consider getting these thermal blackout curtains!
12. Children’s Bedroom Blackout Curtains
If you are a parent, you know the struggle of having a child who is a light sleeper. It can be impossible to get them to take a nap during the day, and they may wake up early. You know that if your child wakes up early, that means you will also have to wake up early.
To help both you and your child sleep better, you can get blackout curtains for their bedroom. Your kids will LOVE these multicolor blackout curtains with stars and a white sheer layer. Don’t they look majestic and ethereal? What kid wouldn’t love them?
They do an exceptional job blocking out the light while looking absolutely adorable. With these curtains, you won’t have to worry about the sun keeping your kids up. They block out about 85% of light from your kids room which is more than enough for most kids to be able to fall asleep.
Both you and your kids will adore these curtains!
