However, while there are many advantages to putting plants in your bathroom, it also comes with additional maintenance. If you get real plants, you will need to take several steps to make sure they stay alive. If you are like me and do not have a green thumb, this can be a challenge.
Additionally, there are so many different plants on the market that all require varying levels of care and maintenance. It can be challenging to understand what each plant needs and what to consider before buying a plant.
In this post, I will be breaking down the best bathroom plants that will not only make your bathroom look gorgeous, but also survive well indoors and require minimal maintenance.
This post is all about the best bathroom plants that will decorate and freshen up your bathroom.
Best Bathroom Plants:
1. Bathroom Plants that Absorb Water
Plants that absorb moisture are one of the best options for plants for your bathroom. Since your bathroom is one of the more moist places in your home, the plants will absorb the excess water in the air.
This means that the plants don’t need to be watered much since they absorb most of their water from the air. Talk about low maintenance!
One of the best plants that absorb water is a Peace Lily. Peace Lilies are known for their water absorption capabilities, and they don’t require a lot of light to survive which makes them the perfect plant for your bathroom.
In addition to being a low-maintenance option, Peace Lilies are gorgeous plants! They have LOTS of leaves which add a good amount of greenery. The white, delicate flowers are so pretty and would look great with any style of decor.
Peace Lilies are an all around great option for a bathroom plant!
2. Large Plants
If you have a large empty corner in your bathroom, you can consider putting a large bathroom plant there to add some additional decor. When it comes to larger bathroom plants, tropical is typically the way to go.
There are several species of palm trees that do well indoors. Palm trees thrive in moist humid environments, making them a good option for your bathroom.
One of the best large plants for your bathroom are Areca Palms. Don’t be fooled by the picture. The picture is of a baby Areca Palm. Arca Palms will grow much bigger and are the perfect floor plants.
Areca Palms do absorb moisture, but you will likely still need to regularly water the plant to make sure it’s soil is always moist. They do also need to be trimmed as they get older, so they don’t grow too big for your bathroom.
Areca Palms don’t require a lot of sunlight, but they tend to do best if they receive indirect sunlight near a window.
Putting an Areca Palm in your bathroom is the perfect way to add a tropical look to your bathroom!
3. Plants That Do Not Need Window
If you don’t have a window in your bathroom, it can be a challenge to find a plant that will survive with no sunlight. Fortunately, there are actually some plant species that do well with little to no sunlight.
One of the best plants for a bathroom without a window is a snake plant. Snake plants are very resilient which means they are super hard to kill. They are perfect for someone like me who is not good at taking care of plants.
Snake plants can withstand being kept in a dark corner for long periods of time. While they do tend to prefer indirect sunlight, they are able to survive in a wide variety of lighting conditions making them a good option for your bathroom.
Snake plants are also pretty low maintenance. Since snake plants usually grow in desert environments, they don’t need a lot of water to survive. In fact, it is recommended that you let your snake plant’s soil completely dry before watering again.
If you’re looking for a low-maintenance plant that doesn’t require sunlight, a snake plant is a great choice!
4. Shower Plants
Putting a plant in your bathroom is a great way to get a spa-like look to your bathroom. When buying a plant for your shower, you need a plant that does well in low light environments and needs lots of water.

5. Bathroom Plants No Light
Finding plants that do well without light is easier than you think! If your bathroom doesn’t offer much light for plants, you can still find some stunning options that will look great in your bathroom.
Tropical plants in particular tend to be very resilient and can survive in a variety of lighting conditions. Bromeliad plants are one of the best species for your bathroom.
Their stunning, vibrant colorful flowers will turn your bathroom into a tropical paradise! They are so pretty, and they are easy to care for.
Bromeliads can actually grow with only artificial light, so if you don’t have a window in your bathroom or you don’t get a lot of natural light, that isn’t an issue for Bromeliads. Since Bromeliads do best in a humid environment, the moisture in your bathroom makes it a great place to keep these plants.
Bromeliads need LOTS of water to survive, so I recommend watering this plant every day to keep it alive.
To turn your bathroom into your own tropical paradise, get some Bromeliads!
6. Artificial Bathroom Plants
Sometimes, you don’t want to have to worry about taking care of a plant. If you like the look of plants as decor, but you don’t want to take on any of the maintenance, an artificial plant can be a good option for your bathroom.
With an artificial plant, you won’t get all the benefits that some of the other plants give like absorbing excess moisture or purifying the air in your bathroom. However, you also won’t be forced to learn how to take care of the plant, and you will never have to worry about who is going to water your plant while you are on vacation.
When you are selecting an artificial plant, you obviously want it to look as real as possible. This artificial succulent plant is one of my favorites. It looks very realistic and it comes in a gorgeous pot. It looks great on shelves or on your bathroom counter, and no one will know it’s fake unless they look super closely or touch it.
Of course, it requires absolutely no maintenance, and it doesn’t need any special conditions to survive. It’s perfect for decor, and you will never have to worry about anything happening to it. It will look just as stunning as the day it arrived for years!
7. Hanging Bathroom Plants
Hanging plants are super on trend right now and for good reason! They are a gorgeous way to incorporate plants into your bathroom decor. Hanging plants add a unique, modern sense of style which will look great in any bathroom.
When it comes to selecting a hanging plant for your bathroom, you need one that is adaptable for indoor conditions. Also, you likely want to get a plant that has some leaves and greenery that spill over the pot, so you can get the full hanging plant effect.
Spider plants work exceptionally well as hanging bathroom plants. Spider plants are one of the best indoor plants because they only need moderate indirect sunlight to survive. Plus, they don’t need a lot of water. I usually water my spider plant once a week, and it is thriving!
Spider plants work great as hanging plants because their leaves tend to spill over the pot. This gives a very attractive look where people see the plant and not just the pot.
If you want to create your own hanging garden in your bathroom, consider getting some spider plants!
8. Bathroom Plant Low Light
When it comes to bathroom plants, I think we can all agree that we want low-maintenance plants that look beautiful and don’t need a ton of light to survive. I mean seriously, who really has a large window in their bathroom to put plants near?
When it comes to plants that do well in low light, Prayer Plants are one of the best options out there. It thrives in low light conditions, and it is so pretty! Just look at those unique leaves!
Prayer Plants are not picky about their environment. They just need a low-light spot that isn’t too cold or draft (so be sure to avoid putting it near an air vent). Other than that, you can place this plant wherever you would like.
In terms of watering, Prayer plants do like a humid environment, so it is recommended that you mist it every couple of days. Prayer Plants do not like super wet soil, so only water them once every two weeks with warm water.
Prayer Plants are a great low-maintenance option for your bathroom!
9. Bathroom Air Purifying Plants
One of the best benefits of having plants in your bathroom is that they can actually help purify the air. While several studies have shown that you need a LOT of plants to make a significant difference, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have some air purifying plants in your bathroom.
One of the best air purifying plants for your bathroom is the Chinese Evergreen. They are great for your bathroom because they are known to clean benzene and formaldehyde from the air. Both of these substances are common in cosmetics which are commonly used in bathrooms.
Chinese Evergreens do well in low light conditions which means that you don’t need to put them near a window. Plus, they thrive in moist humid environments, making your bathroom a great place to put them.
I love that this Chinese Evergreen comes with a beautiful decorative pot. It is the perfect plant to add some life to your bathroom. It would look great on a shelf or on your bathroom counter.

Feng Shui is all about balancing energy. The Chinese practice is intended to bring positivity and luck. Which let’s be honest, who doesn’t want more of that in their lives?
While there are a lot of elements that go into Feng Shui, plants are one of the key elements for creating a home that properly balances energy.
Many plants can be good for Feng Shui, but one of the most popular options is Bamboo. Bamboo represents moral integrity, resistance, and modesty in Chinese culture which make it a great option for balancing the energy in your home.
Bamboo thrives in low light environments which makes it a good option for your bathroom. It only needs to be watered once every seven to ten, making it a relatively low-maintenance plant.
